Ultraman Card Game: Rules Overview

This is a short summary in our own words. The official documents always take priority: the Comprehensive Rules (PDF) and the Floor Rules (PDF).

Deck building

Setting up

Shuffle and play rock-paper-scissors. The winner picks whether to be the Lead Player or the Next Player. Each player draws 6 cards and may redraw once by sending all 6 to the bottom of the deck and drawing a fresh 6. Then shuffle.

Turn structure

Both players share each turn, which runs through nine phases:

  1. Start: confirm who is Lead Player.
  2. Draw: each player draws a card. There is no draw on turn one.
  3. Set Scene: the Lead Player may set one scene card.
  4. Set Character: each player sets one character face-down. The two cards face off in a new battle area each turn.
  5. Level Up: stack a card with the same Character Name that is exactly one Level higher.
  6. Open: all face-down cards flip, and enters-play effects resolve.
  7. Effect Activation: each player may use payment powers.
  8. Judgement: every face-off battles by comparing BP (Battle Points). Higher BP wins, and a tie turns both cards sideways.
  9. End: end-of-turn effects resolve.

How to win

Battles from earlier turns fight again every turn. After a Judgement Phase, a player who has won 3 or more battles that turn wins the game. If both players reach 3, the one with more wins takes it; if they are still tied, play continues. You also lose if you can’t set a new character when required.
